Think of a truly successful person. Not only financially successful, but in every sense of the word. A person who’s doing what he or she loves to do, has loving relationships, a deep sense of meaning in their life, good health and freedom to be, do and have what ever it is that brings them joy. Do you think that they were able to create this kind of a life without listening to their hearts and being guided by their emotions? Emotions act as our inner compass and I believe that joy is an emotion we should follow if we wish to experience true success. Any person who’s unable to feel joy, peace of mind, gratefulness, compassion, love and happiness while living a life of luxury isn’t truly successful in my opinion.

In her interview at Stanford Oprah used the term emotional GPS. Repeatedly she said that she’s listened to her gut feelings all through her life and career. Trusting her emotional guidance system has led her to make good decisions and ignoring it has caused her to make bad ones that cost her time and money. Emotions are one of the ways that our intuition speaks to us trying to get our attention and move us in a certain direction. It’s easy to ignore the inner nudges if we’re too busy being busy. It takes some practice, being able to relax and often also solitude to start to hear and understand the language of our intuition and emotions. The thing that makes it particularly challenging for a left-brained logical person is the fact that often our intuitive messages don’t seem to make any sense. It is only afterwards that we realize our intuition was right all along.

As well as guiding us in the right direction, our emotions can create chaos and suffering in our lives. Therefore emotional healing is critical if we wish to succeed and live happy lives. Not being aware of your emotional triggers and hidden inner drivers can cause serious damage. Old traumas that haven’t been healed and the tendency to repress emotions can cause self-sabotage, emotional and physical pain and sickness. It’s very difficult to manifest your desires if you’re in anguish.

Positive thinking, experiencing positive feelings and focusing on what you want instead of what you don’t want are crucial to making the law of attraction work in your favor. All of this will come naturally when you have dealt with the shadow part of yourself and learned to know true positivity. I’m not a big fan of the advice “Fake it ‘til you make it.” Faking it usually means that you’re not really emotionally in tune with what you desire. This sends out a very mixed signal to the universe making it difficult for you to attract what you want. Instead, when you heal, you will experience self-love, compassion, gratitude and joy, all of which send a powerful emotional carrier wave out into the universe. This is when the magic starts to happen in your life.
